News Topical,Digital Desk : Ronen Bar, the head of Israel's domestic intelligence service 'Shin Bet', has announced his resignation. He will leave the post on June 15. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously tried to remove him.

Netanyahu had said this about Ronen Bar

The Shin Bet, which oversees anti-terrorism investigations in Israel, has been at the center of a growing political conflict against Netanyahu's right-wing coalition government. Netanyahu said on March 16 that he had lost confidence in Ronen Bar long ago. But the Supreme Court later temporarily blocked the government's attempt to sack Ronen Bar.

Netanyahu wanted to dismiss him earlier

Ronen had claimed that Netanyahu wanted to fire him because he had refused to comply with various requests, including spying on Israeli protesters and obstructing a corruption trial. In response to these allegations, Netanyahu accused Ronen of lying.

Israeli attacks kill 51 in Gaza

As Israel's attack continues, 51 bodies of Palestinians were brought to hospitals in the Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours. The Health Ministry said on Sunday that with this, the number of Palestinians killed in the Israel-Hamas war that has been going on for the last one and a half years has reached 52,243.

Israel ended its ceasefire with surprise bombing on March 18 and has been attacking Hamas every day since then. Meanwhile, armed forces have expanded a buffer zone and surrounded the southern city of Rafah and now control about 50 percent of the area.
