In the photos, Ocasio-Cortez was seen enjoying tea and dishes like momos, aloo dum, and paneer tikka at Lliguras Bistro, an Indian-Nepali restaurant in Jackson Heights, Queens.

Who is Ocasio-Cortez?

Ocasio-Cortez is one of a handful of Democrats who endorsed Mamdani's mayoral campaign. Mamdani described the luncheon as the highlight of his busy day.

Zohran Mamdani made history by winning the New York City mayoral race. He became the first Muslim and first South Asian mayor of America's largest city. At just 34 years old, he is the youngest mayor in a century. His victory was based on a left-wing agenda, focusing on narrowing the gap between rich and poor and making the city affordable.

In his victory speech, he quoted India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru's famous "Tryst with Destiny" speech. As he descended the stage, the background music played, not New York City songs, but the beats of the Bollywood hit "Dhoom."
