Let us tell you, laryngeal cancer is a cancer that forms in the larynx, also known as the voice box. In this, the person may have a sore throat or a lump in the neck or problems in breathing or swallowing, for which a biopsy has to be done to diagnose it. The progression rate of voice box cancer ranges from 35 percent to 78 percent. It is worth noting that in 2021, more than 1 million cases of wire box cancer were reported worldwide.

For the study, Jenkins and his team analyzed variations in tone, pitch, volume and clarity from 12,523 voice recordings from 306 participants in North America, some of whom had known laryngeal cancer, benign vocal fold lesions or two other voice box conditions: spasmodic dysphonia and unilateral vocal fold palsy.

The researchers focused on variations in several acoustic features of the voice. They found that there were clear differences in the harmonic to noise ratio and fundamental frequency between men with no voice disorder, men with benign vocal fold lesions, and men with laryngeal cancer. However, no informative acoustic features were found in women. "These evidence-based results open the door to a new application of AI," the researchers said in the paper published in the journal Frontiers in Digital Health.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), people who smoke or drink too much alcohol are 30 times more likely to develop this cancer. Among them, men are found to be more likely to develop different types of throat cancer than women. Experts say that the risk of throat cancer is low compared to other types of cancer. However, some conditions can increase the risk, which requires caution.

Lifestyle changes are an effective solution

Health experts say that usually the initial symptoms of throat cancer are ignored, due to which this disease can grow rapidly. Due to genetic factors, lifestyle disorders and diet-related problems, the cases of this type of cancer are increasing rapidly. According to scientists, till now doctors were doing tests like video nasal endoscopy or biopsy to diagnose this disease.
