News Topical, Digital Desk : The three-week-long student agitation at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Aligarh, UP, ended on Tuesday after getting assurances from the institute's administration regarding fee hike and student union elections. During this agitation, two student leaders had started an indefinite hunger strike but they have now ended it.
AMU Proctor Mohammad Wasim Ali told PTI that the university administration has agreed to a "new settlement formula" regarding the steep hike in annual fees. He said the university administration has also agreed to hold the long-pending student union elections in December, fulfilling another major demand of the protesters.
The agitation ended after the announcement of the university administration
After the university administration made this announcement, the agitation by student leaders that was going on in the university campus for the last three weeks came to an end. During this time, two students of the university had also started an indefinite hunger strike and concerns were being expressed about their deteriorating health.
After the agitation ended, the police force deployed at the gate for the last 10 days was also removed. However, by afternoon, a large number of police and paramilitary forces were once again deployed in the campus.
Hindu Raksha Dal workers were planning to enter the university
At the same time, the administration had again deployed police force for the security of the university as there were reports that the activists of 'Hindu Raksha Dal' were planning to organize a Hanuman Chalisa ceremony at the entrance to 'purify' the university campus.
Let us tell you that some so-called Hindu organization had claimed that a protester had raised slogans in support of Palestine during the recent movement. When asked about this allegation, Proctor Wasim said, 'The matter has come to our notice, but I cannot comment until a full investigation is done.'
