News Topical, Digital Desk : The Election Commission has completed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar. It is expected that the Commission may soon initiate the SIR process in other states as well. Tomorrow, Wednesday, a team from the Election Commission will visit West Bengal. This team will include the Deputy Election Commissioner. The Election Commission team will hold meetings with State Election Commission officials. This visit is being seen as linked to the upcoming SIR in West Bengal.

SIR will be there in all states

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has announced that a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists will be initiated in all states, similar to the one implemented in Bihar. Responding to questions from media, he said the final decision on its implementation will be made by the Election Commission.

What was the result of SIR in Bihar?

This time, the Bihar elections are special in many ways. This is because after 22 years, the voter list in Bihar has been revised and a new voter list has been prepared. Before SIR, there were about 7 crore 89 lakh voters in Bihar. After SIR, now 7 crore 42 lakh people will cast their votes in Bihar. After the voter list revision, the names of about 65 lakh voters have been deleted while about 21 lakh new voters have been added. This time, there are about 47 lakh fewer voters in the elections compared to before. Which is about 6 percent of the total voters.

Supreme Court commented on SIR

Justice Surya Kant stated that conducting a SIR is entirely within the jurisdiction of the Central Election Commission. The court added, "There may be people living in India illegally who will not want to come forward, but they will be exposed. At the very least, we should get a list of those who have actually been affected." The next hearing in the case will be on Thursday, October 9.
