News Topical, Digital Desk : The Indian government is moving rapidly towards manufacturing indigenous weapons on the defence front and in this connection, India's ambitious project 'Fifth Generation Fighter Jet Programme' has reached a crucial stage. It is reported that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has shortlisted three major private companies for the design and manufacture of the prototype of the Advanced Medium Fighter Aircraft (AMCA), but the name of Adani Group is not included in it.

According to a report in Indian Express, the selected bidders include Tata Advanced Systems Ltd as an independent applicant, Larsen & Toubro and Bharat Electronics Ltd consortium and another consortium comprising Bharat Forge, BEML Ltd and Data Patterns.

What is AMCA project?

The AMCA project aims to develop India's indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft. It will be a single-seat, twin-engine aircraft with features such as advanced stealth coating, internal weapons depots, and next-generation avionics. The program will produce over 125 jets, with the target date of induction into the Indian Air Force around 2035.

According to the report, the selected companies are likely to receive government grants to build AMCA prototypes. After the prototypes are evaluated, final manufacturing rights will be determined at a later stage.
