Lahore: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik's wife Mushal Hussain Malik has written a letter to the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, urging him to raise the issue of her jailed husband in the Parliament. Mushal Hussain has claimed in the letter that her husband can play an important role in establishing peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a letter to Rahul Gandhi, Mushal, a former aide to Pakistan Prime Minister on human rights and women empowerment, has drawn his attention to the ongoing trial against Malik in a 30-year-old treason case in which the NIA has sought death penalty for him.

A petition has been filed by the NIA in the Delhi High Court in this case related to terrorist funding against Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik. The NIA has filed an appeal in this case and requested the court to award death penalty to Yasin Malik.

The NIA had filed charges against several accused including Yasin Malik in the 2017 terror funding case. Hearing this, the NIA trial court sentenced Yasin Malik to life imprisonment in 2022.

what was written in the letter

Mushal wrote in the letter, 'Malik is on an indefinite hunger strike since November 2 in protest against inhuman treatment in jail. This hunger strike will have a dangerous effect on his health. This hunger strike will endanger the life of a person who has decided to give up arms and follow the path of non-violence.'

Mushal has claimed that Malik has had a change of heart by referring to several articles. He wrote, Rahul ji, I am not glorifying Malik through these stories, but I want to tell you that he is standing at the last point of his life.

Yasin Malik's wife also made allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party. Accusing the BJP and the NIA, she wrote that the BJP government has been torturing Malik in unimaginable ways since 2019. He is being tried in a 35-year-old case. The investigating agency NIA is demanding the death penalty in fabricated cases registered against Malik.

She further wrote, "I request you (Rahul Gandhi) to use your political influence in Parliament to raise Malik's issue and save him, only he can bring peace to Jammu and Kashmir."
