British Prime Minister Keir Stormer on Monday (October 7, 2024) appointed a new Chief of Staff after the resignation of a prominent figure. The appointment comes amid a sweeping reshuffle of the top team at 10 Downing Street to mark the completion of the first 100 days of the Prime Minister's Labour Party-led government.

Sue Gray, a former top civil servant, was appointed by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson to investigate the 'Partygate' case related to the celebrations held in violation of the epidemic law during the Kovid-19 epidemic in the then 'Tory' government. The word Tory is used for the Conservative Party in Britain. Gray resigned from the post of Stormer's top aide, saying that the media reports about his salary could be a distraction for the government.

Some recent reports suggested tension between Gray and Stormer's chief adviser Morgan McSweeney and that she was earning more than the Prime Minister. The BBC reported that Gray's annual salary was £170,000 (about Rs 1,86,80,365.00) which is about £3,000 (Rs 3,29,749.39) more than Stormer's salary.

Gray said, 'This is why I decided to step down and I will continue to support the Prime Minister in my new role.' Gray's status has been reduced and he has been appointed as Stormer's part-time ambassador for countries and regions. Morgan McSweeney, the former Labor Party campaign director, will replace Gray as the new 'Chief of Staff'.

McSweeney played a key role in the party's landslide victory in the general election in July. Her appointment comes as political director Vidya Alexson and director of government relations Jill Cuthbertson are promoted to the post of deputy chief of staff. Nin Pandit, who was previously the director of the Downing Street Policy Unit, has been appointed Stormer's principal private secretary, while former journalist James Lyon will lead a new strategic communications team. "I am really pleased to have brought such talented and experienced individuals into my team. This reflects my absolute determination to deliver on the vote the country has taken to bring about change," Stormer said in a statement.
