Some daily soaps have become cult classics and even today they rule the hearts of the audience. One such show came in the 80s which was India's first daily soap and the shine of its success has reached abroad.

This daily soap telecasted in the 80s proved to be a milestone in the history of television. It became so popular in that era that 4 lakh letters were sent to the narrator of the serial and that too just for marriage. Yes, the serial we are talking about is  Hum  Log.

Hum Log was inspired by a foreign show

Hum Log, telecasted on Doordarshan in 1984, is one of the top rated daily soaps of all time. This daily soap was inspired by the Mexican telenovela 'Ven Conmigo', but it was adapted to suit the Indian environment and family values. Manohar Shyam told the story of the daily soap, showing the everyday life, struggles and ideals of a middle class family.

Show decorated with experienced artists

Hum Log gave recognition to many talented actors. Actors like Vinod Nagpal (Jogia), Seema Bhargava (Badki), Divya Seth (Chhoti), Rajesh Puri (Lalia), Abhilasha (Maji) and Sushma Seth (Dadi) brought life to their characters but the soul of the show was veteran actor  Ashok Kumar , who played his role as the narrator.

Ashok Kumar had sacrificed his life

He would explain the gist of the story at the end of each episode and talk directly to the viewers. His voice and style became so popular that people would eagerly wait for his 'next kya hoga'. Thanks to this show, the actor received four lakh letters from youngsters asking him to convince their parents to let them marry their favourite couple.

The episode had crores of views

You can guess the success of this show from the fact that after being a hit in India for 17 months, it was also telecasted in the UK. The show had a total of 156 episodes, each of which had 50 million views.
