Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was admitted to the Cardiac Department of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi in the early hours of Sunday. According to hospital sources, his condition is stable and he has been kept under observation. The Vice President was admitted to AIIMS after he complained of chest pain. According to the doctor, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was brought to AIIMS around 2:00 am on Sunday after he complained of uneasiness and chest pain.

The Vice President is being treated under the supervision of Dr. Rajiv Narang, head of AIIMS Cardiology Department. He has been kept in the Critical Care Unit of AIIMS. Keeping his health in mind, checkups and tests are being conducted.

Prime Minister Modi enquired about the health of the Vice President. He said, “I went to AIIMS and enquired about the health of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar ji. I wish him good health and speedy recovery.”

Sworn in as the 14th Vice President

Jagdeep Dhankhar is the current Vice President of India. He took oath as the 14th Vice President of India on 11 August 2022. He was born on 18 July 1951 in Kalibanga, Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan. He is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party and has also previously served as the Governor of West Bengal. Vice President Dhankhar received his education from Punjab University and later obtained a law degree. He is also a lawyer and social worker. Apart from this, he has also been a member of the Indian Parliament for many years.

Political journey of Jagdeep Dhankhar

Jagdeep Dhankhar played important roles in various parties like Janata Dal, Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party in his political journey. He represented Jhunjhunu Lok Sabha constituency as a member of Janata Dal in the 9th Lok Sabha from 1989 to 1991. In 1991, he joined the Indian National Congress and contested the general elections from Ajmer Lok Sabha constituency in the same year, but he lost the election. He then served in the 10th Assembly as a member from Kishangarh assembly seat of Rajasthan from 1993 to 1998. In 1998, he contested from Jhunjhunu Lok Sabha constituency, but finished third. After this, in 2003, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and played an active role in the 2008 assembly elections as a member of the party's election campaign committee. In 2016, he headed the Legal and Legislative Affairs Department of BJP. On 20 July 2019, the then President of India Ram Nath Kovind appointed Jagdeep Dhankhar as the Governor of West Bengal. He was sworn in as Governor on 30 July 2019 at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata.
