New Delhi. A meeting of the Modi Cabinet was held on Monday. In this meeting, approval was given to build 3 crore new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. According to the data of the PM Awas Yojana, in the last 10 years, the central government has built 4.21 crore houses for the poor.

In a visionary move, the newly constituted Cabinet has approved the construction of additional 3 crore rural and urban houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). This reiterates the government's commitment to "Housing for All", and the carpet area eligibility under PMAY-Urban has been increased this time as compared to the earlier 'Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme' (CLLS).
What is the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme
In the year 2015, PM Narendra Modi launched the PM Awas Yojana . The government launched this scheme with the aim of providing housing to everyone in the country. In the interim budget of 2015, the Finance Minister had announced that in the coming 5 years, the government will build 2 crore new houses under the scheme.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) was launched with the aim of providing houses at low cost to the weaker sections of the country, urban poor and rural poor. In Budget 2023, the government increased the funds of PM Awas Yojana by 66 percent.
Who gets the benefit of the scheme
The benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana are available to the Low Income Group (LIG), Middle Income Group (MIG) and EWS. EWS includes those beneficiaries whose annual income is up to Rs 3 lakh.
At the same time, the annual income of the applicant of the low income group should be 3 to 6 lakh rupees. Only those in the middle income group whose annual income is 6 to 18 lakh rupees get the benefit of the scheme.
