Taipei: China recently conducted large-scale military exercises near Taiwan. About a week after the military exercises, US and Canadian warships passed through the Taiwan Strait on Sunday. China has also reacted to this move of the US and Canada. China has said that this harms peace and stability in the region. China claims Taiwan and calls it its territory. 

What the US Navy said

The US Navy's 7th Fleet said in a statement released on Monday that the destroyer USS Higgins and the Canadian warship HMCS Vancouver regularly passed through the Taiwan Strait to uphold the principle of freedom of navigation for all countries. US Navy ships regularly pass through the sensitive waterway separating China from Taiwan. In such a situation, ships of allied countries are also sometimes with them. 

China deployed navy and air force

Meanwhile, the 'Eastern Theater Command' of the 'People's Liberation Army' said that it has deployed the Navy and Air Force 'in accordance with the law' to monitor the American and Canadian ships. The US Navy's 7th Fleet said in a statement that the ships 'passed through such waters where freedom of maritime navigation and overflight in airspace applies under international law.' The statement also said, 'The rights and freedom of navigation of the international community in the Taiwan Strait should not be restricted.' 

China did military exercises on a large scale

Let us tell you that China recently conducted large-scale military exercises around Taiwan and its outer islands. An aircraft carrier was also deployed along with warplanes in the exercise. This move of China reflects the tense situation in the Taiwan Strait. During the military exercise, China used a record 125 military aircraft in a day.
