
On Tuesday, members of DMK, Trinamool Congress (TMC) and other opposition parties in the Lok Sabha expressed dissatisfaction over the government's answers on the issue of MNREGA and created a ruckus. On this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed displeasure and said that members should not bring political agendas of the states in the House. Due to the disruption caused by the opposition members, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House for about 15 minutes till 12 noon.
Opposition's questions during question hour
During the Question Hour, members from Kerala, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu asked supplementary questions related to pending MNREGA funds. Members of opposition parties were dissatisfied with the answers given by Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Minister of State for Rural Development Chandrasekhar Pemmasani and they came near the Speaker's chair and started raising slogans.
Shivraj Singh Chauhan told the House that an amount of Rs 85 thousand crore has been released under MNREGA for Tamil Nadu and the remaining amount will also be released soon. Apart from this, Rs 54,515 crore was released for West Bengal under MNREGA. He also said that the remaining amount will be released when compliance is completed.
Minister of State for Rural Development Chandrasekhar Pemmasani said that misuse of funds under MNREGA had been detected in West Bengal and the funds would not be released until the irregularities were eliminated. He also said that wages under MNREGA had increased by 43 per cent in the last five years.
Intervention of Lok Sabha Speaker
Amidst the sloganeering and uproar by the members of the opposition parties, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that bringing the political agenda of the states in the Question Hour and creating disruptions over it is against the decorum of the House. He appealed to the opposition members to go to their seats and let the Question Hour run smoothly. The Speaker also said that everyone has the right to ask questions in the House, but it is not proper to bring political agendas and disrupt the proceedings of the House.

Due to the uproar and noise, the Lok Sabha Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House for about 15 minutes and adjourned it till 12 noon.
