Ukraine on Tuesday attacked Russia for the first time with six US ATACMS missiles, just days after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced signing of amendments to Russian nuclear policy. This fierce attack was carried out on the 1000th day of the Ukraine-Russia war.
Russia said – five missiles were shot down
A Russian military base in Bryansk, 110 km inside the Russian border, has been targeted. This renewed missile attack has increased the risk of taking the world to the brink of a nuclear war. The Russian news agency quoted the ministry as saying that it has shot down five out of six missiles. The debris of one missile has fallen on the military base in the Bryansk region, due to which there were no casualties and no damage was caused.
Ukraine claims – sound of several explosions was heard
On the other hand, Ukraine has confirmed the attack without giving details of the weapon. Ukraine claims that explosions took place there after that. Earlier on Tuesday, Ukraine's General Staff had said that the Ukrainian army had launched a deadly attack on the 1046th Logistics Support Center located in Karachev in Russia's Bryansk region. Several explosions took place there and sounds of explosions were heard. This attack will reduce Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
The situation of war may worsen
Just a day before this, US President Joe Biden had decided that Ukraine would be allowed to attack deep inside Russia using US long-range ballistic missiles. In response to this, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed amendments to his country's nuclear policy and this is likely to worsen the situation of war.
So will Russia launch a nuclear attack?
Putin says that now if any country launches a conventional attack on Russia with the support of a nuclear power, it will be considered a joint attack on his country. Nuclear weapons will be used against attacks by ballistic and cruise missiles, planes and drones and other flying weapons.
Russia will protect Belarus
The revised doctrine also seems to indicate that if Russia's ally and neighbouring country Belarus is attacked, it can still use nuclear weapons. Remember that the Russian army invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022. How horrific a future war can be can be gauged from the fact that Russia and the US have 88 percent of the world's nuclear weapons.
