The way has been cleared to bring Mumbai attack convict Tahawwur Rana to India. The US court has approved his extradition. Meanwhile, his lawyer has made a last-ditch effort to save him from the US Supreme Court.

Rana's lawyer has filed a petition in the US Supreme Court appealing to review the lower court's decision. In the petition, Rana's lawyer has cited the principle of double jeopardy . According to this principle, a criminal cannot be tried twice for the same crime.

Rana is accused of 26/11 attack

Rana argued that he was tried and acquitted in a federal court in Illinois (Chicago) on charges related to the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack. Now India is also seeking his extradition on the basis of the same charges. However, the US Solicitor General had said that the government does not believe that the conduct for which India seeks extradition is the same case.
