Syria Civil War: Israel has targeted and destroyed military infrastructure built during the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. According to reports, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) attacked these military bases after the HTS group linked to the terrorist organization Al Qaeda seized power.
The IDF informed on Tuesday that this action was taken under "Operation Bashan Arrow", which lasted for 48 hours. In this operation, about 80% of the military capabilities of the Assad regime were destroyed. According to the Jerusalem Post report, Israel has carried out more than 350 attacks in Syria since the fall of the Assad regime.
Weapons were targeted
The Israeli army said that the main objective of the Syria attacks was to target Syria's political weapons depots. During this, the Israeli Navy attacked Al Bayda and Latakia ports, where 15 ships of the Syrian Navy were present. Syria's anti-aircraft batteries, airports, and weapons manufacturing centers were also destroyed. These attacks also include cruise missiles, surface-to-surface and surface-to-sea missiles, fighter planes, tanks, and helicopters.
According to Israeli media, efforts are being made to prevent weapons from reaching the hands
of enemies in view of Hezbollah's attempts to acquire Syrian weapons. In a letter to the United Nations Security Council, Israel has described these attacks as 'limited and temporary', aimed at addressing immediate security threats.
Security priority of Golan Heights
Israel says that the main objective of these attacks is to ensure the safety of civilians on the Syrian border. Such action has been described as necessary in view of the increasing threats in the Golan Heights region.
Major targets in Damascus and southern Syria
The IDF said most of the attacks were carried out in and around southern Syria and Damascus. These attacks specifically targeted air defense systems, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, Qamishli airport in northeastern Syria, the Shinshar base in the countryside of Homs, and the Aqraba airport southwest of Damascus.
