Kerala BJP president and former Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has announced that he will not watch the recently released Malayalam film 'L2 - Empuraan'. The film stars superstar Mohanlal in the lead role and is directed by actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran.
This film is a sequel to 'Lucifer', which proved to be a blockbuster in 2019. However, Chandrashekhar took this decision after controversy arose over the film.
Questions raised on the 17 cuts made in the film
Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed his disappointment on the social media platform 'X' saying that he had earlier seen the film 'Lucifer' and liked it. He was waiting for 'Empuran' but now he has come to know that the filmmakers have made 17 cuts in the film and it has to undergo censorship again.
He criticised the change, saying, “A film cannot be seen as history. If a film distorts reality to create a story, it cannot be successful.”
Context and controversy of the Gujarat riots
Let us tell you, controversy erupted after the release of the film, when the audience objected to some scenes in the film that reference the 2002 Gujarat riots. Many senior RSS leaders, such as J. Nandakumar and A. Jayakumar, expressed their dislike on social media.
After this, various organizations associated with RSS in Kerala also criticized the film. Questions were also raised on the negative portrayal of central investigative agencies like NIA, IB and ED shown in the film.
The name of the villain in the film will be changed
According to sources, the film is now undergoing censorship again, in which 17 cuts have been made. The name of the villain of the film 'Baba Bajrangi' will be changed and scenes that show central investigation agencies in a negative light will also be removed.
