The country's largest cement manufacturing company is associated with the Aditya Birla Group. The name of this company is UltraTech Cement. Now the news is coming that the German cement company is preparing to buy Heidelberg's Indian unit, Heidelberg Cement India Limited. People familiar with the matter have told Moneycontrol.

Heidelberg Cement in India - Heidelberg Cement was founded in the year 1873. The company currently operates in more than 50 countries and has more than 140 cement plants, more than 600 ready-mix concrete plants, and about 1,500 quarries. The

company became one of the world's largest infrastructure product manufacturers after buying Hanson plc in 2007. Heidelberg Cement was launched in India in the year 2006. The company's major brand in India is "Mycem". It produces through its cement plants in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. The company's total production capacity in India is about 6 million tonnes per annum. The company mainly manufactures Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) and Portland Slag Cement (PSC). What is happening now-  Sources told Moneycontrol that top officials of the Aditya Birla Group recently met the management of the German cement maker to discuss the acquisition of Heidelberg Cement India. Heidelberg holds a 69.39 per cent stake in the company, which is listed on the Indian stock exchange. At the closing price of the stock on January 24, this stake was worth around Rs 3,381 crore. Moneycontrol had reported on October 7 that Heidelberg had held talks with the Adani Group and JSW Cement as well as major Indian cement manufacturers such as UltraTech. Under SEBI rules, an open offer is required to buy a 26 per cent stake from shareholders.  In response to Moneycontrol's query, Heidelberg Cement said in an email that it does not react or comment on "market rumours". An email sent to UltraTech did not receive a response. UltraTech's plan to acquire a controlling stake in Heidelberg comes at a time when the Adani Group, the country's largest cement manufacturer, bought Ambuja Cements and ACC Ltd from Lafarge-Holcim for $6.6 billion in 2022.
