South Korea: The South Korean Parliament impeached acting President Han Duk-soo on Friday (27 December). A vote was taken in the Parliament for this, after which the country's Finance Minister Choi San-mok has been made the acting President. Earlier on Friday, a session was started and the impeachment process was initiated. According to a Reuters report, Han Duk-soo was the Prime Minister before becoming the acting President, who was elected as the acting President in place of President Yoon Suk Yeol.

However, on December 14, President Yoon Suk Yeol was removed from the post of President. After this, all his powers were taken away. He was found guilty of imposing martial law in the country on December 3, which caused political turmoil. Today, during the impeachment process, Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung said in his speech in Parliament that it is necessary to eliminate the rebel forces to normalize the country.

Public anger against martial law
The Democratic Party said that Han has crossed his limits by refusing to fill the vacancies in the Constitutional Court. Earlier, in opinion polls conducted after the attempt of martial law, huge public support was seen for removing President Yoon Suk Yeol from office.

How does voting for impeachment take
place ? According to South Korea's law, the voting process for impeachment requires a simple majority for the Prime Minister and a two-thirds majority for the President. After Han was suspended, Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok has been given the responsibility of assuming the post of acting President. However, before this Choi had warned that impeachment would seriously damage the country's economic stability and credibility.
