New Delhi. President Draupadi Murmu on Friday presented distinguished service awards to the Army Chief and other officers during the Defense Investiture Ceremony 2024 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this, the President praised all the army officers for their service to the country.

President Draupadi Murmu conferred the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) to Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in the second phase of the Defence Investiture Ceremony. Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM).

Along with this, Indian Army Aviation Director General Lieutenant General Ajay Suri was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Indian Coast Guard Director General Rakesh Pal was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Lieutenant General HS Shahi was awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM). The President also awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) to Indian Army Deputy Chief Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani.

In the ceremony, 94 Vishisht Seva Medals were awarded to the personnel of the Armed Forces and the Indian Coast Guard. These included 31 Param Vishisht Seva Medals (PVSM), four Uttam Yudh Seva Medals (UYSM), two personnel were awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) once again and 57 were awarded AVSM for the first time. These personnel were awarded for exceptionally distinguished service in their respective fields.

During this, many people including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena participated. It is worth noting that earlier the first phase of defense decoration was held on July 5, when the President awarded 10 Kirti Chakras, including seven posthumously, to the personnel of the army and paramilitary forces for displaying indomitable courage and extraordinary bravery during duty.
