Vientiane: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held a brief meeting with PM Modi in Laos. According to sources, there was no concrete discussion regarding the earlier comments made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. It is being said that this meeting took place between the two leaders on the occasion of the ASEAN summit in Laos.
However, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC News) claims that Trudeau described the meeting as a "brief exchange". "I stressed that we need to work something out," CBC News claimed, quoting Trudeau. "I didn't go into detail about what we talked about, but what I've said many times is that protecting Canadians and maintaining the rule of law is one of the fundamental responsibilities of any Canadian government and that's what I'm going to stick to," Trudeau said at a press conference in Vientiane.
There was no 'substantive discussion' between the two leaders
India TV sources claimed that "nothing substantive was discussed between the two leaders during this meeting in Vientiane". "India expressed the hope that anti-Khalistani activities will not be allowed on Canadian soil and that strong action will be taken against those advocating violence, extremism and terrorism against India from Canadian territory, which has been lacking so far. India said that "the growing nexus of such forces with organised crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should also be a matter of concern for Canada. India said it values relations with Canada, but these cannot be improved unless the Canadian government takes strong and verifiable action against those actively working against them."
Anti-India conspiracy in Canada
India has always said that there has been a conspiracy to advance anti-India activities and promote hatred, propaganda, communal animosity and violence on Canadian soil." But Canada has been avoiding concrete action on this. After the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a gurdwara in the city of Surrey on June 18, 2023, Trudeau had accused Indian agents of "possible" involvement in it. After this, relations between India and Canada have been tense. Although India had declared Nijjar a terrorist in 2020 itself. But Trudeau did not take any action against him. India had strongly rejected Trudeau's allegations as "absurd" and "motivated".
