Last fortnight, Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again highlighted the problem of increasing obesity in India and said that 'it is the root cause of all diseases.' The number of overweight and obese people in India is increasing rapidly.
It is feared that by the year 2050, 44 crore Indians will be obese. If the lifestyle is not changed in time, then we will overtake China in the category of obesity among youth. In countries where obesity is already at its peak, policies should be made at the national level for clinical management of obesity and related lifestyle conditions and investment in treatment. Despite obesity being on the global health agenda for two decades, only 40 percent of the countries, of which 10 percent are low and middle income countries, have such policies.
Apart from policies, if we look at it personally, obesity can be treated in two ways. First, by adopting a healthy lifestyle, it should be nipped in the bud before it develops, grows and turns into a disease. Or second, your hard-earned money should be spent on expensive medicines, treatments and surgeries, which could have made your life better in some other way.
The method of correct nutrition was in the traditions
Weight loss means melting the excess weight that grows in our body and becomes a burden on our body. Weight is not our enemy. Yes, when it becomes a burden, it brings diseases. Excess and speed, both these things can be harmful for a person. Attachment to food and its excess increases weight.
These days, various types of intermittent diets are in vogue, from One Meal a Day (OMAD), Warrior Diet. Whereas in Indian tradition, One Meal a Day has always been practised, where people used to eat to live, not live for food. In the OMAD plan, our body's digestive power gets several hours to digest the food.
The body digests food very comfortably by saving energy to absorb the essential elements from the food and remove waste from it. Usually people eat fast food or eat heavy snacks in the evening before their lunch is digested. The food that is not digested leaves a negative impact on our body. This is what gives rise to obesity.
what is the best time to eat
For satisfaction and balance, eat once a day, that too between 10 and 2 in the afternoon, when the digestive power is at its peak. This Pitta period is the strongest at 12 o'clock. It is said that if one eats food during that period, then even poison can become nectar. So eat only one meal in the afternoon, rest you can eat fruits, sprouted pulses etc. in the morning and drink soup or decoction in the evening.
This kind of internal fasting keeps you clean and because of that you remain healthy. If children are also taught to live such a life, they can also get better health. If you are light from inside, your mind will be light and if your mind is light, mental pain cannot keep you trapped. In Jainism, this is called Ayambil, where you do not eat food after sunset.
Simple tips for staying healthy
Obesity has also come among Indians because we have started eating too much fat and refined flour. We have started eating packaged food, processed, flavored food. We have forgotten to get up before sunrise and have started waking up like nocturnal creatures. This has disturbed the balance of our body clock. If we get absorbed in the tradition of our sages and saints, then every Indian will become clean, healthy, he will achieve success, he will have determination and he will become prosperous.
Similarly, yoga practice should be included in our daily routine. To stay healthy, we should adopt the tradition of cycling, where children go to school and college and adults go to work by bicycle. This will not only improve health, but fuel consumption will also be reduced and the environment will also remain clean!
