Hamas' armed wing Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades released a video showing Israeli soldier Liri Albag, who was captured in Gaza in the October 2023 attack. In this three minute and 30 second video, 19-year-old Liri Albag is appealing to the Israeli government in Hebrew for her release.
According to the report, no information has been found about the date of this video and its authenticity has not been confirmed yet. The 'Hostage and Missing Families Forum' said in a statement that Liri's family has not given permission to publish this video.
The family appealed
"We appeal to the prime minister, world leaders and all decision makers. It's time to make decisions as if it were your own children," the family said in a statement. Albagh was 18 when she was captured by Palestinian militants at the Nahal Oz base on the Gaza border along with six other female soldiers, five of whom are still in captivity.
Hamas and its ally Islamic Jihad have released several videos of Israeli hostages in their custody during the nearly 15-month fighting in Gaza.
How many hostages were taken in 2023?
The militants took 251 hostages during the 2023 offensive, of whom 96 remain in Gaza. The Israeli military says 34 of them have been killed. Hamas recently said that indirect talks with Israel for a ceasefire and hostage release agreement were to resume that night in Qatar. There have been no updates since then.
These countries are trying to stop the war
Qatar, Egypt and the United States have spent months trying to end the war but have failed. Weekly demonstrations organised by the Hostages Forum, the latest of which was held in Tel Aviv, have kept up the pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reach a deal to free the hostages. The prime minister's critics in Israel have accused him of blocking a deal.
