The 54-year-long reign of the Bashar al-Assad family in Syria has come to an end. Bashar al-Assad has been the President of Syria for the last 24 years. But after a rebellion that lasted for about 13 years, he had to flee the country with his family on 8 December.

Moscow, the capital of Russia, is now Assad's new abode. Before Assad, his father Hafiz ruled Syria for almost 30 years. The Syrian rebels did whatever they wanted. But what will be the impact of this entire incident on West Asian countries? Let's find out...

How Assad's fort collapsed

On November 27, Syrian rebels launched a new war called 'Operation Deterrence of Aggression'. The rebels were led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). HTS was supported by groups supported by Jaish al-Izza, National Front for Liberation, Ahrar al-Sham, Nour al-Din and Turkiye. The command of HTS was given to 42-year-old Abu Mohammad al-Julani. This is the same Julani who has also been imprisoned in America for five years.

Assad's army could not survive even for 11 days

HTS ruled Idbil. But on 27 November, it attacked Syria's second largest city Aleppo with the aim of overthrowing Assad. Aleppo was captured in three days. After this, the rebels took control of Hama and Homs and started moving towards the capital Damascus with full force. But in the meantime, Bashar al-Assad left the country before the rebels could reach Damascus. In just 11 days, 42-year-old Julani overthrew Assad's entire power.

  • In the last 13 years, rebels tried several times to remove Assad from power. But every time Assad failed this attempt. But what happened now that his government collapsed in just 11 days. The reason for this is that Assad's biggest allies were Russia, Iran and Hezbollah. All of them are busy in their own wars these days. Assad could not get the kind of help from these countries that he had received earlier.
  • The Syrian army was also fed up with the civil war that had been going on for the last 13 years. Many soldiers had also formed separate rebel groups. The entire economy has been ruined due to Western sanctions. Even before the rebels' attack, the Syrian army had fled on many fronts. The rebels benefited from this.

Iran's biggest defeat

Assad's fall is the biggest defeat for Iran. The reason for this is that Iran was openly helping Assad for the last 13 years. Iran also sent its troops to Syria in support of Assad. Its proxy Hezbollah also sent its fighters to Syria during the civil war.

With Assad's departure, Iran's major base in Syria has been destroyed. In fact, Iran used to send arms to Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza from Syria. Hezbollah in Lebanon has already been weakened in the war with Israel. Now Assad's departure from Syria is no less than a shock for Iran.

Russia suffered a setback due to the rebellion

The Syrian rebellion is no less than a shock for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is embroiled in the war in Ukraine. Russia has put its military bases in Syria on high alert. These are the same military bases from which Russia heavily shelled the rebels. But then Assad's government was in power.

Now the government is in the hands of the rebels. Syria and Iran were the biggest centers of Russia's geopolitics in the Middle East. Syria has collapsed and Iran is in crisis. This is the biggest blow for Russia. This is the reason why Russia's tone has started changing. Russia has stopped calling HTS a terrorist group. In fact, the organization has assured the safety of Russia's diplomatic mission and military bases.

  • Russia has an airbase in Khmeimim, Syria. There is a naval base in Tartus. From these military bases, Russia used to keep an eye on the entire Middle East. Not only did it keep an eye but it also gave a strategic challenge to America. But now the situation is completely different.

What will happen next in Syria?

Syria's largest rebel group Hayat Tahrir Sham (ATS) has been banned by the US and the United Nations. The US has also announced a $10 million bounty on HTS chief Abu Mohammad al-Julani. Uncertainty has increased significantly in Syria after Assad left the country.

America has talked about a new Syria, a new government and a new constitution. But when and how will this come into reality? Everyone's eyes are on this. At present, the Syrian Salvation Government of HTS is in power in Idlib. This government is also considered to be as cruel as Assad's government.

Turkey's big win

Turkey is also involved in the Syrian rebellion. Bashar al-Assad has made this allegation. Turkey supports the Syrian National Army. Since the civil war, about 30 lakh Syrian citizens have taken refuge in Turkey. Turkey's President Erdogan has demanded their return several times.

Turkey has had the biggest victory in the entire rebellion. Turkey supports the Syrian National Army on its northwestern border. This group was also against Assad and was involved in the rebellion. On the other hand, America supports the Kurdish organization. The Kurds fought the Islamic State from 2014 to 2017. The war between the Islamic State and the Kurds continues even today.

On December 8, the US carried out attacks on several IS targets. On the other hand, Turkey accuses the Kurds of terrorism. In such a situation, Turkey can make a tough deal with the US on Syria. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also spoke to Turkey's Defense Minister Yasar Guler. Now, after the formation of a new government, Turkey can get its demand for the return of refugees accepted. This is one of the biggest crises of Turkey.

There will be American interference in the new government!

America will play an important role in the new government of Syria. America is in touch with HTS. The same Julani on whom America has announced a reward and sanctions is giving an interview on CNN. The world is considering this form of America as unusual.

On December 8, Joe Biden said that we are all considering the question of what will happen next? The US will work closely with its partners and stakeholders in Syria to help them take advantage of the opportunity to manage the risk. It is certain that the new government to be formed in Syria will be pro-West. Russia and Iran will be marginalized.

Why is Israel happy?

For Israel, which has destroyed Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Syrian uprising is like a new era. It is hoped that now Syrian soil will not be used against Israel. This is the reason why Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu even said that Assad's fall is due to Israel's attack on Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah. Increasing American interference in Syria will be in Israel's interest.

Will there be Arab Spring 2.0?

The anti-Assad sentiment in Syria was created in 2011 due to the Arab Spring. In fact, rebellion broke out in Libya, Tunisia and Egypt and people toppled the government in no time. People troubled by Assad thought of doing something similar in Syria. But they were unsuccessful. But exactly 13 years later, the rebels won. This can have an impact on many other Arab countries. Especially on Iran.

The Israeli Prime Minister has already appealed to the people of Iran several times to overthrow Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In the last few years, people in Iran have also revolted against the government. In such a situation, the revolt in Syria can take a new form in Iran.
