New Delhi: The family of Nikhil Gupta, accused of conspiring with an Indian government official to kill a Sikh terrorist in the US, wants New Delhi's help in getting justice.

US federal prosecutors have accused Nikhil Gupta of plotting a failed assassination of Sikh terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. Pannu is a US citizen and supports a sovereign Sikh state in Punjab. The US government claims it foiled the assassination plot.

Kept in the dark about extradition

The US had also conveyed its concern to India. Nikhil Gupta's family sources, on the condition of anonymity, said that it is a matter of concern for our family that we were kept in the dark about his extradition. We have not been able to contact him directly since his extradition to the US.

He also said that he has not received any response to the questions he has asked the Indian government and its embassies. Despite the allegations levelled against him, he is an Indian citizen and patriot who deserves the rights and protections given by the government to its citizens.

Denial of charges of conspiracy to murder

Nikhil Gupta was arrested in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, last year. He was extradited to the US this month. On Monday, he denied the charges of conspiracy to murder in a Manhattan court.
