New Delhi. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding the cancellation of NEET-UG 2024 exam. Apart from this, the petition has appealed to conduct an inquiry by the CBI or any other independent agency under the supervision of the apex court into the alleged irregularities in the examination held on May 5. In the petition filed by 20 students who have appeared in the medical entrance examination, the apex court has also demanded to direct the National Testing Agency (NTA) and others to conduct a fresh examination.

demand for re-examination

The Supreme Court on Friday sought response of the Centre and NTA on a plea seeking a CBI probe into allegations of question paper leak and other irregularities in the exam. The fresh plea said that in view of "widespread irregularities and cheating", re-examination would only help deserving students get admission in medical institutions.

The integrity of the exam is questionable

The petition states that the sanctity of the examination is questionable in view of the confirmed cases of question paper leak. According to media reports, an FIR has also been registered in this case and several people have been arrested. The petition also states that the declared result shows that 67 candidates have scored 720 out of 720 marks. At the same time, an extraordinary increase of more than 400 percent has also been recorded in the number of students scoring 620-720 marks.

Demand for investigation by independent agency

The petition has demanded a thorough investigation of the irregularities by the CBI or any other independent agency under the supervision of the court so that justice can be done to a large number of meritorious students. The petition has demanded a direction to a committee appointed and monitored by the court or any other independent agency to investigate the educational background, forensic analysis and investigation of all such candidates who have scored 620 and above.

Appeal to give these instructions to NTA

The plea also sought directions to the NTA and others to take effective steps to ensure transparency and fairness in the examination process and to address the concerns related to alleged cheating, question paper leak and unfair means in NEET-UG in future.
