Gavi, an organization that provides vaccines to the world's poorest countries, has warned that more than one million people could die if the US cuts funding.
Let us tell you that the New York Times had published a news which said that the US is planning to end the funding to Gavi. This decision was included in a 281-page spreadsheet, which was sent to Congress by the United States Agency for International Development on Monday night.
Trump has made big cuts
However, Gavi CEO Sania Nishtar has not received any termination notice from the US government. She said that cutting Gavi's funding from the US would have a devastating impact on global health security and the outbreak of dangerous diseases would endanger lives everywhere.
Health experts and organizations have also warned that cutting Gavi's funding would ultimately cost the world more money and set back a quarter-century of progress in the fight against many deadly diseases. Let us tell you that Trump is continuously stopping the funding given by America to the world.
America gives one fourth of the funds
- Gavi is a public-private partnership institution. It is headquartered in Geneva. It helps protect more than half of the world's children from infectious diseases such as COVID-19, Ebola, malaria, rabies, polio, cholera, TB, typhoid and yellow fever.
- The US funds about a quarter of the institute's budget. Andrew Pollard, head of the Oxford Vaccine Group, said that in the face of the Trump administration's sweeping aid cuts, the institutes are reluctant to speak out because they could be targeted.
Asked to stop broadcaster's funds
The relationship between Donald Trump and the American media has not been very good. Both keep attacking each other. Now Trump has called upon the US Parliament to immediately stop funding two public broadcasters. Trump has called the radio network NPR and the broadcast channel PBS as weapons of the Democratic Party.
"Funding for NPR and PBS, two horrible and totally biased platforms, must be stopped immediately by Congress," Trump wrote on his Truthout social platform on Thursday.
