According to the story, when Ram ji was exiled for 14 years, his wife Sita and younger brother Lakshman also got ready to go to exile. Before going to exile, all three of them went to the ashram of Rishi Atri.

There, Rishi Atri's wife Mata Anasuya welcomed all three of them with great respect. Mata Anasuya also taught Sita ji the principles of chastity, because Mata Anasuya was considered to be the most devoted woman to her husband. During this time, Mata Anasuya also gave Sita ji a divine yellow colored saree as a gift.
