President Donald Trump has directed the US military to lift a ban imposed by former President Joe Biden on the supply of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, a White House source said.

These moves were expected of Trump. Biden had halted the delivery of those bombs during Israel's war with Palestine, particularly in Rafah, Gaza, because of concerns about their impact on the civilian population.

Trump and Biden are supporters of Israel

Donald Trump wrote on his social media app Truth Social, ‘Many items that were ordered and paid for by Israel, but not shipped by Biden, are now on the way!’

Trump and Biden have been strong supporters of Israel, even as the US has come under fire from human rights activists over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza sparked by Israel's military offensive against Palestinian militant group Hamas.

hostages released after ceasefire

  • A ceasefire came into effect a week ago and some Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza were released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. Before his swearing-in on January 20, Trump had warned that there would be a hell of a price to pay if the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza were not released.
  • According to Israeli figures, Hamas took around 250 people hostage during its attack on Israel on 7 October 2023. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Israel's subsequent military assault on Gaza killed more than 47,000 people.
  • The United States says it is helping Israel defend itself against Iran-backed terrorist groups such as Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.

Trump has his eye on Greenland

While the notion of the United States purchasing Greenland has been a topic of discussion for months, recent developments suggest that President Trump's administration is more serious about the proposal.

A phone call between President Donald Trump and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has reignited the debate over the future of Greenland. Trump's stance on annexing Greenland has upset many in Denmark and Greenland.

Greenland is very special

There is a reason for Trump's interest in Greenland. The island is rich in minerals important for technology and defense, including rare earth elements used in mobile phones, electric vehicles and weapons.

Trump has sought to annex the island of 56,000 people since his first term. Greenland's location on the shortest route between Europe and North America makes it vital to the US military and its ballistic missile early-warning system.
