India's first 3D film was the Malayalam language film My Dear Kuttichathan released in 1984. It was directed by Jijo Punnoose and produced by his father Navodaya Appachan. The story of the film revolves around an invisible ghost who is enslaved by an evil magician. Three children free the ghost from the magician and befriend him.
MP Ramanath gave his voice to Kuttikathan in the film. The role of the magician was played by K. Sreedharan Nair. Actors like Sonia, Master Suresh and Master Arvind and Dalip Tahil played important roles in the film. According to Wikipedia, this film had collected Rs 2.5 crore at that time.
It was dubbed in Hindi after 14 years
After the success of My Dear Kuttichathan, it was dubbed in Hindi as Chhota Chetan 14 years later. This film was also directed by Jijo Punnoose. It was also well liked and did very well at the domestic box office. It is said that it did a business of Rs 10 crore in 1998.
Actors like Urmila Matondkar , Dalip Tahil, Satish Kaushik, Shakti Kapoor, Harish Kumar and Ravi Baswani played important roles in this film . Miss Hawa Hawai became famous.
