Relations between India and Pakistan have been bad for a long time. Trade between the two countries has been closed since 2019. Relations between the two countries have become very bitter since the Pulwama attack. After this attack, India removed Pakistan from the list of Most Favored Nation status. As a result, the custom duty levied on goods imported from Pakistan increased by 200%. After this decision of the government, Indian traders had almost stopped imports from Pakistan.

The Indian government removed Section 370 from Kashmir in 2019

Not only this, in August 2019 itself, the Indian government removed Section 370 from Kashmir. Pakistan's sentiments were deeply hurt by this decision of India and Pakistan banned imports from India. From here, along with diplomatic relations, trade relations also started deteriorating between the two neighboring countries. In March this year, Pakistan had said that it does not want to restore trade relations with India. But the truth is that the closed trade between the two countries is not making much difference to India, but the businessmen and common people of Pakistan are struggling badly with this.

What things were traded between the two countries

According to the Indian High Commission in Pakistan, Pakistan mainly imported cotton, organic chemicals, animal feed, vegetables, plastic items, man-made fibres, coffee, tea, spices, colours, oil seeds, dairy products, medicines from India. On the other hand, India imported copper, copper items, fruits, dry fruits, salt, sulphur, clay, mineral fuel, plastic items, wool and leather from Pakistan.

Goods became expensive, people lost their jobs

While the trade between the two countries was stopped, the trade of dates and rock salt in India was badly affected, on the other hand, the textile industry and sugar market in Pakistan collapsed badly. Not only this, a large amount of raw material for medicines made in Pakistan was sent from India and due to the trade stoppage, there was a shortage of good medicines in Pakistan. Apart from this, Pakistan also imported certain chemicals, cumin, coriander and mustard from India. In such a situation, due to the stoppage of trade with India, not only the prices of things increased in Pakistan but many people also lost their jobs due to lack of work.
