Ottawa: After talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G-7 in Italy amid growing bilateral ties, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday said there is coordination with India on many key issues and he sees opportunities for dialogue with the new Indian government on a range of issues, including economic ties and national security.
PM Modi met Justin Trudeau at the G-7 summit
Prime Minister Modi on Friday posted a photo of him shaking hands with Trudeau on social media, with a line saying, "Met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G-7 summit."
The meeting, held in Apulia in southern Italy, was the first amid strained diplomatic ties over Khalistani extremism after Trudeau alleged the possible involvement of Indian agents in the killing of pro-Khalistani Sikh militant Hardeep Singh Nijjar in September last year.
Canada had raised questions on India regarding the murder of Nijjar
Asked on Tuesday if he had seen improvement in cooperation from India in the Canadian investigation into Nijjar's killing, Trudeau said "there is a lot of work going on." Trudeau's allegations last year were strongly rejected by India's foreign ministry as absurd and motivated.
