Helicopters have been deployed to control the fires spreading in Pacific Palisades, Eaton and Hurst. Water is being sprayed from the helicopters. 15 thousand acres in Palisades, 10 thousand acres in Eaton and more than 500 acres in Hurst have been burnt to ashes.

 

Thousands of firefighters are working to control the fire. Los Angeles Fire Officer Kristen Crowley said that we are not out of the woods yet.

 

People fled, abandoning their vehicles on the streets. Emergency services bulldozed the vehicles. Some trees and vegetation on the Getty Villa grounds were burned, but staff and museum collections were safe because surrounding bushes had been cut down.

The fire first broke out on January 7. It spread due to strong winds. An area of ​​several square kilometres has been burnt to ashes. Efforts are being made to extinguish the fire.

 

The situation was so dire that the Los Angeles Fire Department had to appeal for help from its personnel who were not on duty. Seeing the situation, President Joe Biden had to cancel his visit to Italy.
