UP News: Farmers in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh cultivate potatoes in large numbers. Here farmers spray alcohol on potato crops along with pesticides. Farmers spray alcohol by mixing it with medicines.
In village Bohich of Shikarpur tehsil in Bulandshahr, farmers are spraying alcohol mixed with pesticides on potato crops. Farmers say that potato production increases due to spraying of alcohol and potatoes do not get any disease in winter season. Potato size increases due to spraying of alcohol and its colour also remains clear.
Potato production rate is quite high in Bohich village, where farmers use alcohol to improve their crop. They believe that alcohol is sprayed to protect potatoes from excessive cold and to make them thick and healthy.
Farmer Ram Babu Sharma, while talking to IANS, in response to a question said that by spraying alcohol, the effect of frost on potato crop is greatly reduced and potatoes become thicker. We have been spraying alcohol on potato crop for four-five years, it benefits us. About 200 ml of alcohol mixed with medicines is sprayed on six bigha (one acre) crop. There is no harm from this.
Spraying alcohol increases the size of potatoes
In response to a question, farmer Kanchan Kumar Sharma said that spraying alcohol causes potatoes to swell (increase in size). We also spray it to protect potatoes from frost. We use 200 ml of alcohol in one acre. We have been cultivating potatoes for seven-eight years, since then we have been using it. It has no side effects.
