After the murder of a corporation councilor's daughter in broad daylight on the college campus in Hubli, Karnataka, a political tussle has started between Congress and BJP across the state. A 23-year-old student of the Masters of Computer Application (MCA) at BV Bhoomardi (BVB) College of Engineering and Technology was attacked with a knife. She was the daughter of Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) councilor Niranjan Hiremath. The student was identified as Neha Hiremath, who was murdered by a 23-year-old accused named Faiyaz. The accused had attacked her with knives seven times.

In the CCTV footage, Faiyaz was seen stabbing Neha several times before running away. The woman died due to multiple knife attacks, while the accused has been arrested. He is said to be a resident of Munavalli of Savadatti. His parents, Baba Saheb and Mumtaz, are government school teachers.
