With the aim of attracting foreign investment on behalf of the Assam government and establishing Assam among foreign tourists, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met ambassadors and high commissioners of several countries in New Delhi on Tuesday. Later Himanta said that ambassadors of 37 countries participated in this meeting and told them about the possibilities of Assam and the Northeast region.

 

 

The meeting was held in three phases

Biswa specifically spoke about the opportunities available for the semiconductor industry in Assam. The Assam government is going to organise the second phase of the Advantage Assam programme next month which will be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, IT and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Industry and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also participate in it.

 

Assam is making its mark as an emerging economic power- CM

 

The CM of Assam has said that under India's Act East policy, Assam is like a gateway for South East Asian countries. This region can create unlimited opportunities for investment and employment by collaborating with neighboring countries. Assam is making its mark as an emerging economic power. Today's meeting is going to take this issue forward.

 

He further said that I have realized that many countries are very interested in Assam and have started recognizing its potential. In the conference to be held next month, we will have the task of telling these countries about the opportunities available in Assam. Till now India's focus for economic development was towards the South and West and now efforts are being made to take it towards the East.

 

 

Peaceful atmosphere of Assam- CM Sarma

 

He said that Assam has a peaceful environment, hydrocarbon reserves and the power of professional youth which will appeal to foreign companies. Himanta assured that any company that comes to Assam will be supplied with green energy. He said that there is a lot of potential for the defense sector in Assam. For this, he is talking to the Indian government. Ambassadors of Singapore, Australia, European Union and South East Asian countries participated prominently in the meeting.
