The visit was the first high-level dialogue between the two countries since the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus came to power in Bangladesh. Hearing will be held on January 2
Spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was arrested on November 25 on charges of sedition, is still in custody. India's Foreign Ministry has urged the Bangladesh government to ensure that his legal rights are protected and his trial is conducted in a transparent manner. The next hearing in his case is scheduled for January 2, 2025.
FOC meetings continue
Earlier on December 4, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to Bangladesh's chief adviser, confirmed that the meetings will focus on mutual interest. In September, Bangladesh's foreign adviser Mohammad Touhid Hussain met Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two sides agreed to continue holding FOC meetings to further bilateral cooperation.
Attack on temples in Bangladesh
Increasing violence against minority groups remains a serious concern. On December 6, the Hindu temple Mahabhagya Laxminarayan Mandir located in Dhor village near Dhaka was allegedly set on fire. The temple's supervisor Babul Ghosh filed a complaint against unidentified attackers, alleging that petrol was poured on the idols before the attackers fled.
