News Topical, Digital Desk : Relations between Dhaka and New Delhi appear to be back on track since the Tariq Rahman government came to power in Bangladesh. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met with the Bangladesh High Commissioner on Friday (March 20, 2026).
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar posted on the social media platform X, saying, "I met with Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah. Our discussions focused on advancing our bilateral relations."

A statement said Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma expressed his government's desire to work closely with the new Bangladesh government to further advance bilateral cooperation.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman also stated that the focus will be on building a forward-looking and balanced partnership based on mutual interests for the benefit of the people of both countries. It should be noted that both countries are taking important steps to improve relations. Both sides have agreed to maintain regular and constructive dialogue to further strengthen bilateral ties.

A few days ago, Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Pranay Verma met with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman. This was Varma's first meeting with the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister since the formation of the new government led by Tarique Rahman. Speaking to reporters in Dhaka, the Indian Ambassador said that India wants to pursue cooperation with a positive, constructive, and forward-looking approach based on mutual interests and benefits.
It should be noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a congratulatory message to Tarique Rahman immediately after the Bangladesh elections on February 13th . The two spoke by phone later that day. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla participated on behalf of the Indian government at Tarique Rahman's swearing-in ceremony on February 17th.
