News Topical, Digital Desk : In a major move based on national security and historical animosity, the US State Department on Saturday took action against Syed Eisa Hashmi, son of Masoumeh Ebtekar, the spokesperson for the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. The US State Department revoked the legal permanent resident status (green card) of Syed Eisa Hashmi and his family.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio took this action against three Iranian nationals: Syed Eisa Hashemi, his wife, and son, all of whom are of Iranian descent and lawful permanent residents of the United States.
Deport process underway
Under this action taken on the instructions of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Hashmi, his wife and son have been detained and they will soon be deported from the country.
Anti-American citizens will not be allowed to stay
The US Department stated that it worked closely with the Department of Homeland Security and immigration enforcement agencies to carry out these actions. The department also stated that the administration will never allow the United States to become a home to foreign nationals with ties to anti-American terrorist regimes.
Hashemi is the son of Masoumeh Ebtekar, who served as a spokeswoman for the militants during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, during which 52 Americans were held hostage for 444 days.
According to the statement, Ehtekar acted as a "chief propagandist" for the hostage-takers. He arranged sham interactions with the media and presented a picture of the hostages' treatment that authorities described as misleading.
The department said the hostages were confined to solitary confinement in cells, blindfolded, starved, and subjected to physical and psychological torture, including beatings and a mock execution.
