Islamabad. The Pakistan Army on Monday lashed out at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) without naming it. Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi, Pakistan Army spokesman Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said that the organised political mafia was spreading misinformation about a new counter-terrorism operation 'Azm-e-Istehkam' launched with the aim of eliminating terrorists and economic development.

PTI had strongly opposed Azm-e-Istehkam

It is known that last month, former Pakistan PM Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had strongly opposed Azm-e-Istehkam. PTI said that any military intervention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be strongly opposed.

What did the army say on Azm-e-Istehkam?

He said that a huge illegal political mafia has emerged to sabotage this campaign and the first step of that mafia is to make the campaign controversial through false and bogus arguments. Regarding Azm-e-Istehkam, he said that it is not a military operation but an anti-terrorism initiative aimed at promoting economic development and stability.
