News Topical, Digital Desk : The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recently discovered a secret tunnel in the Gaza Strip used by a top Hamas commander. Hamas fighters also buried the body of their lieutenant, Hadar Goldin, here.

Lieutenant Haider Goldin was killed in the Israeli-Hamas conflict in 2014. Israel recovered his body earlier this month.

Video of secret tunnel surfaced

The IDF shared a video on the social media platform X, which it claims is the tunnel where Goldin's body was placed. The Israel Defense Forces said the tunnel passes beneath the densely populated Rafah neighborhood and passes through an UNRWA compound, mosques, clinics, and kindergartens. It is believed that this tunnel was used by Hamas fighters and commanders to store weapons, plan attacks and stay for longer periods.

7 KM long and 80 room tunnel

The IDF says the secret tunnel is more than 7 kilometers long, 25 meters deep, and contains 80 rooms. The tunnel was discovered by the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit and the Shayetet 13 naval commando unit.

During the search, the military also found rooms used as command posts by senior Hamas commanders. These commanders included Mohammed Shabana, who was killed along with Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar in May of this year.

Hamas member involved in soldier's death arrested

In another post, the IDF reported that Marwan al-Hams, a Hamas terrorist involved in the killing of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, has been arrested.

The post said al-Hams was also suspected of knowing the location of Lieutenant Goldin's burial in the White-Crowned Tunnel in Rafah. The post said the July 2025 operation was part of dozens of confidential operations carried out over the past six months to bring back Lieutenant Hadar Goldin and bury her in Israel.
