News Topical, Digital Desk : Sometimes life throws up situations where it's difficult to figure out what to do next. Nowadays, everyone wants a job with a good salary. Sometimes, jobs offer a lot of money, but the thought of going to work makes one feel nervous.
A similar case has come to light. A man shared his dilemma in a post on Reddit. The 29-year-old, who works in environmental research, explained that he would be stationed at McMurdo Station on the icy continent and would receive a very high salary.
The person sought opinion on social media
However, the man is quite unsure about what to do with the offer. He has sought advice on social media. He said the pay is quite high, and he also added that the job could negatively impact his three-year relationship and personal life.
"I work in environmental research, and my company asked me if I wanted to go to McMurdo Station in Antarctica for a six-month research assignment," the person wrote on Reddit. "The pay is really good for the location, like 13 million rupees ($145,000) for six months, and they cover almost everything (food, accommodation, flights, equipment, everything)."
The man says that living in Antarctica would mean no expenses, but his girlfriend was apparently "not happy" about his departure. He wrote, "My girlfriend supports me, but is obviously not happy with me being away for so long. We've been together for three years and she understands, but yes, it's quite difficult."
The researcher revealed that his current net worth is approximately ₹16.2 million (approximately $1.62 million). If he were to find a job, his net worth would double. "It would be easier to deposit my entire salary in the bank, as I already have some money saved for rent and other expenses," the researcher said. "But being isolated for such a long period, like six months, is very difficult, even though this science would prove extremely beneficial to my career."
What advice did people give?
The post is receiving comments. As of this writing, it has received over 7,000 upvotes and thousands of comments. Many users urged the researcher to accept the job offer. However, some pointed out the challenges faced in Antarctica.
One user wrote, "I would have done the same. Doubling your wealth in just six months is a great opportunity. You're doing this for both of your futures." Another user wrote, "I did. Working at McMurdo gets boring after a while, but if you get the chance to leave McMurdo and work in the field, it's the most amazing experience and I would jump at it." However, it will definitely put a strain on your relationship.
