Indian-origin Democratic Party candidate Zohran Mamdani is considered to have a strong chance of winning the New York City mayoral election scheduled on November 4.

Cuomo, however, immediately conceded defeat. But more results are needed to establish the winner because of the city's 'ranked choice voting model'. Under this, if voters' preferred candidate drops out of the race, this model allows their second, third, fourth and even fifth preferences to be counted.

On Tuesday, the election board also announced the results of the next round, that is, the winner between Mamdani and Cuomo. In this too, Mamdani has surprisingly defeated Cuomo. After this, he will now contest in the general election, which also includes current mayor Eric Adams as well as independent candidate Jim Walden and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

If he wins the election, he will be the first Muslim and Indian-origin mayor of New York

If 33-year-old Mamdani wins the November 4 election, he will be the first Muslim and Indian-origin mayor of New York. He is the son of renowned Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and Ugandan writer and Mumbai-born Mahmood Mamdani.

Mamdani has promised that if he becomes the mayor, he will work to provide relief to the working class in the city from expensive house rents. All available resources will be used for this.

He has promised to run fare-free buses. He has also promised to provide free childcare facilities for children up to five years of age.

He has also said during his campaign that food prices are getting out of control. He will establish a network of grocery stores in the city to provide goods at affordable prices. He has also talked about increasing taxes on the rich in New York to increase revenue.

Trump said, New Yorkers would be crazy to elect Mamdani as mayor

US President Donald Trump called Mamdani a "communist" and said, "We don't need a communist at all." He said that if the people of New York elect Mamdani as the next mayor, "I think they are crazy."
