New Delhi: Maldives is now coming to its senses. China-backed Maldives President Mohammad Muizzu has slowly started changing his tune. Before his upcoming visit to India, Muizzu has accepted the resignation of two of the three ministers who made objectionable remarks against India and Prime Minister Modi.

Two ministers resigned

Three deputy ministers of Maldives had made controversial comments about India and Prime Minister Modi on social media. After this, tensions in relations between India and Maldives had increased further. However, the Foreign Ministry of Maldives distanced itself from the comments of the ministers and said that they do not represent the views of the Male government. After this, three deputy ministers were suspended. Of these, Deputy Ministers Maryam Shiuna and Malsha Sharif resigned on Tuesday.

Muizzu will come to India soon

Heena Waleed, the chief spokesperson of Mohammad Muizzu's office, said that the President will soon make an official visit to India. The date has not been decided yet. But both countries are discussing the date. Pro-China Mohammad Muizzu attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi on 9 June.

Muizzu broke the tradition

Every leader who wins the presidential election in Maldives used to make his first official visit to India. But Mohammed Muizzu broke this tradition. Instead of India, he first visited Turkey and after that he made a state visit to China.

India's tense relations with Muizzu

Maldives' relations with India have been strained ever since Muizzu came to power. Within hours of taking oath, he announced the withdrawal of Indian troops deployed on three aviation platforms gifted by India to Maldives. Maldives deployed its own citizens in place of Indian troops.
