Why did Lata Mangeshkar's fight with Mohammad Rafi last for 4 years, the reason will surprise you

Even today, when the songs of the Queen of Melody Lata Mangeshkar are played, people automatically get lost in it and close their eyes. Mohammed Rafi has also been such a legendary singer whose voice as well as his gentle nature was so much liked by the directors and producers that one or the other song of his was fixed in almost every film. 

If two greats of the singing world, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi come together, then that film was sure to be a superhit. Both of them sang many evergreen songs together like Jo Vaada Kiya Wo Nibhana Padega, Jhilmil Sitaron Ka Aagan Hoga. However, there came a time when these two legendary singers of the industry fought with each other and they did not work with each other for at least 4 years. Lata Mangeshkar got angry over such a small thing

Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi had a fight over 'money and rights'. Prayag Shukla has mentioned the story of their fight in the book 'Mohammad Rafi Ishwar Ki Awaaz' written on Mohammad Rafi. He had told in this book that once Lata Mangeshkar had raised her voice regarding the royalty of singers. 

Lata Mangeshkar  also discussed this with Mohammad Rafi and said that she feels that singers should get royalty for their songs. However, Mohammad Rafi was not in favor of this. He directly told Lata Mangeshkar that singers are getting money for their singing and they have no rights over the songs. Lata Mangeshkar was very upset after hearing this from Mohammad Rafi. 

Lata Mangeshkar and Rafi sahab did not work for 4 years 

It was also told in the book that Lata Mangeshkar was so angry with Rafi sahab that she did not work with him for four years. Whenever Lata Mangeshkar was offered a song with Mohammad Rafi, she would refuse by making an excuse. Directors and producers tried to convince her, but the queen of melody did not listen. Seeing this behavior of Lata Mangeshkar, Rafi sahab also lost interest in singing with her. Both of them did not work together for 4 years. 

When Mohammad Rafi was asked why he does not sing with Lata Didi anymore, he replied, "When Lata Ji is not interested in singing with me, why would I be interested in singing with her". After Lata Mangeshkar repeatedly said no, the makers replaced her with Suman Kalyanpuri and now Mohammad Rafi was paired with a new singer. Suman and Rafi sahab gave many hit songs together. 

Lata Mangeshkar resolved the fight in panic

When the pair of Suman Kalyanpuri and Mohammad Rafi became a hit, Lata Mangeshkar got worried and requested the singer duo Jai-Kishan to make her talk to Mohammad Rafi once. Mohammad Rafi also agreed to resolve this fight that lasted for four years. Jai Kishan resolved their fight and again both of them sang together for a film. 

However, later Lata Mangeshkar gave an interview in 2012 after Mohammed Rafi's death, in which she said that the singer had written an apology letter to her, due to which she agreed to work with him. Mohammed Rafi's son was very angry on hearing this.
