Sushmita Sen bought the dress from Sarojini Nagar

You will be surprised to know that Sushmita Sen  wore a dress bought from Sarojini Nagar market in the finale of the Miss India  contest. Actually, Sushmita, who belongs to a middle class family, had revealed in Farooq Sheikh's TV show Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai that when she was getting ready for the finale of Miss India, she did not have money for designer clothes. She had said, “At that time I did not have much money to buy designer clothes and go on stage. We needed four costumes for Miss India, but the budget was low. We were from a middle class family and knew our limits.”

The one who stitched the petticoat had made the gown

Then her mother advised Sushmita Sen that people are coming to see her, not her dress. Her mother's words touched her heart. She immediately went to Sarojini Nagar with her mother and bought the fabric from there.

She further said about this, "The fabric was bought from Sarojini Nagar market. A tailor used to stitch petticoats in the garage below our house. We gave him the fabric and said, 'Look Bhaiya, this is going to be shown on TV, make it nicely.' He made my gown from the same fabric." The same Sushmita who became Miss India wearing a dress from Sarojini Nagar is today said to be the owner of 100 crores (according to GQ).
