Russia launched a major attack on Ukraine on Monday morning. This attack with 127 missiles and 109 attacking Shahed drones is one of the biggest attacks on Ukrainian cities in the two and a half year war. In the latest attack, five people have been killed, dozens injured and Ukraine's national grid has been damaged. This has affected the supply of electricity and water in a large area of the country.
Russia's big attack on Ukraine
This attack has happened after Ukraine's drone attacks on Russia's cities of Saratov and Engels. It is known that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Ukraine three days ago in an attempt to stop the war. Russia's air strike took place in 15 areas including Ukraine's capital Kiev, second largest city Kharkiv, port city Odessa, Lviv. Ryan Evans, who was part of a team of British journalists staying in a hotel in the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk, died in a Russian missile attack and two people were injured.
Russia attacked with hypersonic missiles
Several types of missiles were used in the Russian attack, including hypersonic missiles. It is reported that these were launched from high-altitude bombers and Russian warships in the Black Sea. The Ukrainian army has claimed to have destroyed most of the missiles and drones in the sky itself. This attack has taken place when the Ukrainian army has captured about 1,200 square kilometers of area in southern Kursk, Russia, while the Russian army has advanced in eastern Ukraine and reached the transport hub Pokrovsk.
What did Zelensky say after Russia's attack?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that in the latest attack, cowards have targeted civilian facilities, increasing the difficulties of the common people. Ukraine's energy sector has suffered major losses in the attack. Along with this, Ukraine has asked for long-range missiles from its allies so that it can attack the interior parts of Russia.
Currently Ukraine attacks interior parts of Russia with rockets and drones. Poland, alerted by Russian attacks near its border with Ukraine, has said that NATO fighter jets are ready to respond to any misadventure by Russia.
Drone collides with 38-storey building in Russia, woman injured
On Monday, a drone attack similar to the one that happened on the World Trade Center in New York in 2001 took place in the Satarov region of Russia. The drone flying in the sky in the Russian city came down and hit a 38-storey residential building, but the attack in Russia did not cause heavy loss of life and property like the New York attack. A woman was injured in the attack in Satarov and has been admitted to the hospital.
Video posted on Telegram by Russian news site Shat showed the drone hitting the top of the building, causing debris and shattering windows on three floors onto cars parked below. About two dozen cars were reportedly damaged.
Russian Defense Ministry statement
The Russian Defense Ministry has said that a total of nine Ukrainian drones were destroyed on Monday in the Satarov region. Similarly, drones were also destroyed in Engels. Due to these drone attacks and the action to destroy them, the movement of aircraft in the area remained halted for several hours. Both areas are about 900 kilometers away from the Ukrainian border. Engels has a large base of Russian bombers, on which Ukraine has tried several times to attack with drones.
Meanwhile, seven people are reported to have suffered severe burn injuries in a fire at Russia's largest Omsk oil refinery. The fire has been brought under control and production is going on smoothly. The reason for the fire that broke out at the factory with a loud noise has not been disclosed.
