Dhaka: Bangladesh's interim government chief Muhammad Yunus has objected to the statement made by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while she was in India. Muhammad Yunus said that Sheikh Hasina's political comments on India are an unfriendly gesture. Until her extradition by Dhaka is done, she should remain silent to avoid inconvenience to both the countries.
He said that if India wants to keep them until Bangladesh (government) calls them back, the condition will be that they have to keep quiet. Bangladesh values strong relations with India, but New Delhi should also consider it to maintain this relationship. India should refrain from Sheikh Hasina's statement in which she said that without Sheikh Hasina, the country will turn into Afghanistan.
There were no attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh
Nobody in India is comfortable with her stance because we want to bring her back. She is in India and speaks sometimes, which is problematic. If she had remained silent, we would have forgotten it; people would have forgotten it. But sitting in India, she is speaking and giving instructions. Nobody likes this. Referring to the incidents of alleged attacks on Hindu minorities in the country and India's concern over it, Yunus said that this is just an excuse.
Sheikh Hasina should be punished
Let us tell you that Muhammad Yunus was referring to Sheikh Hasina's statement of August 13, in which she demanded 'justice' and said that those involved in the recent terrorist acts, killings and vandalism should be investigated, identified and punished.
Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh and went to India
Muhammad Yunus said that the statements being made by Sheikh Hasina are not good for us or India. On August 5, after protests in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and fled to India. Her presence in India for about four weeks has fueled speculation in Bangladesh.
Campaigning while staying in India is not good
Yunus said that it has been told verbally and quite strongly that she should keep quiet. Everybody understands this. We have told quite strongly that she should keep quiet. This is an unfriendly gesture towards us; she has been given asylum there and she is campaigning from there. It is not like she has gone there in a normal way. She has fled after people's revolt and public anger, he said.
Sheikh Hasina should be brought back to Bangladesh
Yunus said that the interim government is committed to ensuring justice to the people of Bangladesh against the atrocities and for justice it is necessary to bring him back to the country. He should be brought back, otherwise the people of Bangladesh will not get peace. The way he has tortured the people, he should be presented here in front of everyone.
Both countries need to work together
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15 expressed hope that the situation in violence-torn Bangladesh will soon return to normal and said that 1.4 billion Indians are concerned about the safety of Hindus and minorities in the neighboring country. When asked about ways to improve India-Bangladesh relations, Yunus said that both countries need to work together and currently it is in a bad state.
