Typhoon Gaemi has wreaked havoc in China. 7 more people have been reported dead due to torrential rains caused by the strong storm, taking the total death toll to 22. All the deaths have occurred in Hunan province. Heavy rains have been occurring in eastern Hunan for several days, Typhoon Gaemi hit the Chinese coast after reaching neighboring Fujian province.
Four people were reported dead and three missing in four villages in the city of Jixing, according to the official Xinhua news agency. The rain damaged hundreds of homes in the city and forced more than 11,000 people to evacuate, Xinhua said.

The bodies of three other missing people were found in a village in a nearby city, state broadcaster CCTV said in an online report. They were victims of a sudden landslide triggered by rain, according to CCTV. Seven of the deaths were in an area south of the summer tourist region, where a landslide hit a homestay house on Sunday morning, killing 15 people and injuring six others. In Hunan, two sections of the Xuanshui River burst due to rain in Xiangtan county on Sunday and more than 3,000 people were evacuated, Xinhua said.

Gaemi also caused heavy rainfall in northeastern China and North Korea, causing flooding along the Yalu River, which divides the two countries. Severe flooding was reported in the Chinese border city of Dandong and along the North Korean border.
