News Topical, Digital Desk : China is showing every sign of cooperation in improving diplomatic relations with India, but the same cannot be said for economic ties. In particular, the Chinese government has given no indication of opening up the supply of rare earth manganese and some other rare metals.
PM Narendra Modi's visit to China
- In this regard, the Chinese government has neither paid any attention to the demands of Indian automobile companies nor given any positive signals to the requests made by the Indian government.
- In such a situation, the eyes of the industry are fixed on the bilateral meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday evening.
- It has been told that apart from PM Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to China, the second most important issue in the meeting of the two foreign ministers will be related to business relations.
What is the dragon adamant about?
Diplomatic sources said that China is adamant that it will only supply rare earth magnets to companies in countries that have signed agreements on their use. This agreement ensures that the rare earth metals it exports will not be used in military fields.
Possibility of misuse
China banned the export of rare earth magnets in April 2025, citing the potential for misuse in the defense sector. This metal is used extensively in the automobile sector, which has had a significant impact on Indian automobile companies.
There is no change in China's stance.
Some companies have begun sourcing from Japan and other countries, but this is not sufficient. This issue of Indian companies was also raised by the Indian Ambassador in Beijing. However, China's stance has not changed so far.
